Hand Wash Activity at Degam Primary School


On March 2, 2024, a Hand Wash Awareness Activity was conducted at Degam Primary School at 2:30 PM. In this activity, all the teachers of the school were gathered together along with representatives from the organization to introduce themselves, and the students were provided with two glasses, water, and soap. Two students were then called, and all the teachers demonstrated proper handwashing techniques, emphasizing when and how hands should be washed. It was explained that washing hands before and after certain activities is necessary, and after washing hands with plain water, the students were explained step by step how to use the hand wash kit. They were also provided with information about the importance of handwashing and when it should be done.

In this Hand Wash Awareness Activity, primarily all sections of students and the entire staff of the school were present. It was emphasized that handwashing is essential before and after certain activities such as using the toilet, after playing, after coming from the market, or after helping with household chores. It was explained to the students by a teacher how hands should be washed, both before and after engaging in these activities.

Along with washing hands, it is important to trim fingernails regularly, keep hair clean, and be vigilant about cleanliness at home and in the community. It was explained to the students that after washing hands with plain water, they should follow the steps provided and then proceed to wash hands using the Hand Wash Kit. They were also shown a video explaining how to wash hands properly with the kit and how regular handwashing can greatly impact our health, keeping us free from illness. This habit, if instilled early, proves to be very beneficial throughout life. Both students and school staff actively participated in the Hand Wash Activity, and everyone enjoyed it. After the Hand Wash Awareness Activity, Hand Wash kits were provided to the students of the Child Cabinet and the school staff by the organization, along with raising awareness initiatives, which will continue to be implemented, ensuring the completion of the activity. The event was very successful with attendance of over 100 participants.

On the date of 21-03-2024, the Child Cabinet meeting was held at Nani Siloda Primary School. The meeting primarily focused on the functioning of the Children's Parliament. Introductions were made for the members of the Children's Parliament Cabinet, and discussions were held regarding their roles and responsibilities. The discussion included the duties of the Prime Minister and their role and responsibilities, as well as those of the Ministerial Cabinet, such as the Health Minister, and their tasks. Specifically, the responsibilities of the Cleanliness Minister regarding the cleanliness of the school, including inspection of the grounds and monitoring the cleanliness of the school's sections, were highlighted. Household Surveys in Nadiad and Mahmedabad Blocks

Team successfully conducted 824 household surveys in the Nadiad and Mahmedabad blocks. These surveys were crucial in gathering comprehensive data on the challenges faced by households in these areas. The results highlighted significant issues, such as a lack of access to potable water, proper sanitation facilities, and functional drainage systems for a majority of the households. Furthermore, the surveys revealed high dropout rates among students and alarmingly low literacy rates among women. These findings point to the urgent need for targeted interventions aimed at improving both living conditions and educational outcomes in these communities. In total, 824 households were directly impacted by this survey.
